Ponds Lawns care

6. THE WATER GARDEN

Client - Mr & Mrs Murray

Brief - To create a Wow garden. As non gardeners, they hated the sight of bare soil and weeds! They wanted to incorporate a pond in the garden.

Design and Installation - Taking the longest axis in the garden, I chose to install a series of water features.

From the header pool with slate monolith, the water cascaded into the top rill and then into the lower rill before cascading into the lower cobble lined natural pool. To foaming jets with uplighters were installed in each rill. The water is pumped continually from the lower pool to the top circular header pool.

A pathway was installed around the outside of the garden leading to a small circular paved seating area.

Thujopsis dolobrata was chosen as a hedge to screen off the existing close-board fencing. Specimen japanese maples were planted in breaks in the hedgeline to contrast with all the evergreens. Box hedging and lollipop corkscrew bays were planted to add planted structure to the scheme. Around the lower pool, moisture loving plants were planted with marginal plants and lillies in the pool.
